Richard F. Wilson, Chairman br>
Richard F. Wilson has served as the President of Illinois Wesleyan University since 2004. Working with faculty,
staff, students and alums, he has implemented strategic initiatives that emphasize teaching and learning, student
development, sustainability efforts and engaging with the community and the world. Illinois Wesleyan is also in the
midst of a $125 million fund-raising campaign that will build the endowment for student scholarships, invest in
faculty and programs, and enhance campus facilities. Dr. Wilson is currently chair of the Federation of Independent
Illinois Colleges and Universities.
Dr. Arol Augsburger, Vice Chairman br>
Dr. Arol Augsburger, an Ohio State University College of Optometry cum laude graduate (’71) with a Doctor of Optometry
degree, is President of the Illinois College of Optometry, the oldest and largest college of optometry in the country and
the largest provider of vision care in Illinois in its clinic, the Illinois Eye Institute. The Illinois College of Optometry
is located within the State Senate District in which President Barack Obama represented as the former Illinois State Senator.
Dr. Augsburger completed three degrees (B.S., M.S. and O.D.) at The Ohio State University. Prior to his appointment at ICO
in 2002, his 30 years of leadership in higher education included positions as the Interim Provost of the University of
Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Dean and Professor of the UAB College of Optometry, and Professor of Clinical Optometry at
The Ohio State University College of Optometry. Dr. Augsburger was honored in 2008 by the American Optometric Association
as the year’s Distinguished Service Awardee. He is the Illinois Optometric Association’s Optometrist of the year for 2007.
Dr. Augsburger was also named Optometrist of the Year in two other states (Alabama and Ohio) where he previously served.
Dr. Augsburger has held multiple board offices of national professional associations, such as the Association of Schools and
Colleges of Optometry and the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. He recently finished his term as the President of
the Rotary Club of Chicago, the world’s first Rotary Club. He serves on the Board of the Partnership Foundation for Optometric
Education, the Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities, the Near South Planning Board of Chicago, and the
Jackson Park Hospital Foundation. He was appointed to the President’s Council of The Chicago Lighthouse for people who are
blind or visually impaired and also to the Bubbly Creek Advisory Board by Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Christine M. Wiseman, J.D., Secretary Treasurer br>
Christine M. Wiseman, J.D. is the President of Saint Xavier University in Chicago and the immediate past
Provost of Loyola University Chicago, where she also held a tenured position as Professor of Law.
She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and is Chair
of its Academic Affairs Committee. Before joining Loyola in 2007, Professor Wiseman served as Vice
President for Academic Affairs at Creighton University and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
at Marquette University. President Wiseman is currently Secretary-Treasurer for the Federation of Independent
Illinois Colleges and Universities
